Vlaamse Tegelmeesters

Trade Spec Sheet

Handmade ceramic surfaces from East Flanders, Belgium. Prepared batches, glaze finishing, and project commissions by direct inquiry.

Material Character

Handmade ceramic tile surfaces with visible variation in tone, glaze movement, relief, edge character, and slight dimensional difference. Variation is part of the finished work and not treated as a defect.

Typical Uses

Interior wall surfaces, kitchens, bathrooms, shower areas, fireplace surrounds, hospitality accents, and project-specific architectural surfaces. Exterior use reviewed individually.

Sample Policy

Samples may be supplied for active projects once the intended surface direction is known. Samples indicate glaze family and material behaviour; final batches remain naturally varied.

Lead Times

Prepared bisque stock may reduce lead time where available. Larger commissions, relief surfaces, and custom glaze directions should be discussed at least 8 weeks ahead.

Annual Production

Approximately 600 m² of tiles are produced each year, keeping the work limited and tied to atelier rhythm rather than industrial availability.

Drying & Firing

Tiles are dried between pieces of wood, bisque fired at 1080°C, and glaze fired at 1180°C. Batch timing follows drying, firing, and glaze planning.

Finish Options

Flat glazed surfaces, selected relief surfaces, glaze-family selection, and restrained custom glaze directions. Strict factory repetition is not the intended character.

Installation Notes

Blend tiles across the batch before installation. Substrate, waterproofing, adhesive, grout, movement joints, and final suitability must be confirmed by the appointed installer.

Care Notes

Use mild non-abrasive cleaning. Avoid harsh acids, strong alkalis, abrasive pads, and snagging cloths on relief surfaces. Relief may require a soft-bristle brush.

Inquiry Requirements

Share intended setting, approximate surface area, desired surface family, project location, timing, and whether samples are required for client or material-board review.
